Stylish self-catering holidays and short breaks in Somerset

What Our Guests Say

I just wanted to drop you an email to thank you for our stay last weekend. We had a great time, both families really enjoyed the weekend and the quality of your accommodation was a massive part in the that.

~Davies/Stuart Families, Aug '24

I wanted to thank you for the nice stay in your cottage last week. We really appreciated the great location, the well equipped house, the nice garden for the children to play in and the cleanliness. It really felt like home for the week. We also really enjoyed all the nice things to do in the area.
I don’t discard the option of coming back another summer!

Just wanted to say thanks for the great couple of days we had at your place. The lodges were perfect, so comfortable and warm after being out in the cold all day. We'll be looking for a reason to return soon.
~ Rob, December ‘23

Had a lovely holiday, the Lodge was perfect for the 6 of us. It had everything we needed. The children loved feeding the chickens in the grounds and playing with the toys.

This was our third holiday at By The Byre, yet again we've had a fantastic time. A tawny owl visited most evenings to the delight of us all! We will be back again soon!

Thanks very much for a lovely break from London's hectic life! We loved it - Rabbits, Moorhens and all! It was like 'home from home!' Very well stocked with all we wanted! We will try and come back again to see more places around here.
~ James, September ‘ 23

Thanks for a fabulous stay in a very peaceful location. The children have loved playing football and cricket in the gardens as well as feeding the chickens! We'll happily return here again.

Thank you for a wonderful stay in your lodges and cottage.  Our extended family had a fantastic weekend and it was so lovely for us to be able to all get together to celebrate my Mum’s 80th (even if it was two years late).  The lodges and cottage were exceptionally clean and contained everything we needed and more.  The children really enjoyed the play area and outdoor toys and the much older children made the most of the football field!   We had a great day out at Longleat and my Mum thoroughly enjoyed her postponed Birthday celebration with all of her family.  Thank you for an amazing time.
~ Teresa, June ‘ 22

We just wanted to say how much we enjoyed staying at your lovely home over the past couple of days. The cottage was so comfortable and in a beautiful location.
~ Sarah, June ‘ 22

Steve & Sally were very helpful and friendly. Eco lodge very clean and well presented. Beautiful surroundings and lots of wildlife. Well located for Bath, Longleat, Glastonbury, Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge. Really enjoyed our holiday. Would definitely stay again. Highly recommended.
~ Amanda, May ‘ 22

We wanted to say how lovely our stay was and how it exceeded our expectations. You’d thought of everything! Even with our Tesco delivery cancelling our weekend holiday shop, you’d given us the basics which was totally unexpected and appreciated. The cottage was clean to a very high standard which just made the break even more enjoyable. Growing up in a hotel my mum always said how ‘there should be no evidence of anyone having stayed previously’ on the cleanliness side of things which of course is almost impossible! But you’ve managed it and it was lovely.
~ Hannah, Dec ‘ 21

Just wanted to say a big thank you for our weekend in your lodge, we felt very privileged to stay there. The views are amazing, and the lodge warm, spotless and so comfortable. We will stay longer next time!
~ Angie, Nov ‘ 21

First holiday was 2019 and glad to say we are going back! You have to be there to experience the tranquillity, beautiful lodges...very clean with all amenities which is suitable for families and children of all ages , couples who want a relaxing stay but also like to explore Bath, visit Longleat. Etc. Host were lovely and there if you need them.

The lodge we stayed in was excellent. It sleeps 6 - one double and 4 single beds in 3 rooms and 2 bathrooms. The kitchen has everything you need for a good self catering break - microwave, dishwasher, fridge, cutlery and cooking utensils all provided. A washing machine is also available, should you need one. There's also a TV, Bluetooth speaker and Wi-Fi available (as well as a DVD player discreetly hidden under the TV) - good for distracting kids after a day out. We did have a sight issue with the WiFi, but after quick call and the router was quickly rebooted. Sally was very helpful and made suggestions for maximising a visit to Longleat. Really nice touch was the bread, butter and milk provided (would recommend bringing your own jam and sandwich fillings). Great place to stay if you want to visit Longleat or Bath. Frome is close by and a nice place to visit too.

We stayed in one of the eco-lodges onsite and it was awesome. Warm, spacious and extremely well equipped, set on a beautiful site in rural surroundings with wonderful views out if any window. Even my daughter would approve and she has high standards

The first time we stayed was in 2017 and because we had such a great time we booked again in 2018. The lodges were very comfortable, we booked 2 of them because our grandchildren wanted to run around and keep everyone awake. Excellent centre to visit Longleat and the rest of the area. Hope to visit again when all the restrictions are lifted. Would certainly recommend the site.
~ The Price and Burns families, 2020

We stayed here for 2 nights as we wanted to visit a few places in Somerset, the cottage we stayed in was lovely and very clean, made us feel like we were at home. Definitely would recommend to anyone, can’t fault our stay in any way, worth the full 5* review
~ Kelly, Feb ‘20

A perfect location for a three night stay to explore Frome, Longleat and Bath. Sally was most welcoming, with good communication leading up to our break. The lodge itself is well appointed, spacious and comfortable. Home from home. Thank you Sally.

Great location to those wishing to site see in Somerset.Great spacious property and grounds, kid friendly. Location was perfect to see the sites in Somerset and beyond. Property was clean and well furnished with all mode cons. Staff were friendly and on-hand during our 2-week stay.

We had a wonderful week in Beckington! We immediately felt comfortable in the spacious, modern and well kept house. When we arrived in the evening, bread, milk and butter were already in the fridge. So we didn't have to go shopping for breakfast next morning. Sally welcomed us warmly and recommended some interesting trips in the region, while Steve came along for looking after the house after a regional power cut. The house is well equipped, even dishwasher tabs and salad oil were on the hand. Sitting at the dining table was always a pleasure, just because of having a great view over the grain fields or looking at the other guests' children playing on the vast property. We enjoyed the quiet environment, but also used many opportunities for excursions to exciting destinations in the surrounding area. Our highest recommendations!

We have just returned from a weekend away at the lodge near Bath. We visited Bath Christmas markets while staying here as it's so local to Bath city centre. The lodge has literally everything you could ever wish for in holiday accommodation. The owners are friendly and helpful from the moment of booking, to arrival and when leaving. There is a lovely welcome pack left for us on arrival, perfect if you're waiting for shopping to arrive and need a cup of tea. The facilities are faultless, the beds comfy and the entire property is clean and beautifully presented. Waking up to the country views is a perfect way to spend a weekend getaway. This is my third visit here and we will be back. Thank you!

We have just returned from a fantastic long weekend. We were a family of six adults and two children. We had a cottage and a lodge. Perfect. This meant that we could all eat breakfast together in the lodge. The lodge and cottage have everything that you could want. They are very tastefully decorated. We all said that we could imagine living there and would be very comfortable! Even though the weather was atrocious, we were all cosy and warm. Sally and Steve were very helpful and ensured that we had everything that we needed. The welcome pack of bread, butter, milk, eggs, tea and coffee was much appreciated. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return again , possibly in summer months when we could take advantage of the outside area. We visited Longleat and saved a significant amount of money booking through Sally and Steve. Thank you.

Had lovely relaxing stay at Steve & Sally’s cottages on 19/6/18 for 3 nights to visit Longleat with our granddaughter. The cottage was set in a beautiful quiet position just off the A36, 12 miles from Bath and approximately 15mins from Longleat. The cottage has everything you’d want for a stay with or without kids. The property has all the safety equipment you’d need such as stair gates, child locks on the ‘velux’ windows plus a Highchair and bed guard. We were welcomed by Sally who gave us all the info we needed and even arranged additional entry tickets to Longleat for our son who arrived for a night from university in Brighton. They had even stocked the fridge with milk, butter, and eggs. The farmhouse loaf of crusty bread was soooo tasty and just lasted the three nights! The field in front of the property was vast with a range of children’s toys, ride on and static, that our granddaughter loved. A large outdoor table with bbq’s laid on. I would highly recommend a stay at this site, you won’t be disappointed.
